Waiting for Simon

Simon was in upstate New York for business this past week. His flight home came in on Friday but was delayed due to thunderstorms. While I waited near the airport for him to fly home, those troublesome thunderstorms made for beautiful scenery in the nearby country. The area photographed here is destined for a McMansion subdivision. There already was a large house being built. I wandered around, got rained on, and played with the sun and the dew, enjoying the paradise that is soon to be demolished.

A cat's life

Here is my cat, Tilla, doing what she does best. It's good to be a cat.

Fun with a Hopper

I found this little guy out on a mimosa tree in my yard. Playing around with a strobe, I attempted to take some studio portraits and capture the insect's glory. The insect didn't want to sit still and pose, so around and up and down he went. He wing is particularly beautiful as it looks just like a small leaf. The natural world never fails to amaze me.

Wastewater Lesson for Piedmont Biodiesel

There is always something new to be learned. In our dining room that here is used as a meeting room, Simon Lobdell is teaching a crew from Piedmont Biodiesel about the basics of wastewater. Wastewater is one of Simon's areas of expertise as he is a working engineer from Moncure, NC. Piedmont Biodiesel is the local biofuels community also based out of the Pittsboro/Moncure area.

Wedding at Claxton Farm

Lauren and Daniel Ward got hitched up in Weaverville at the Claxton Farm which is nestled in a hilly landscape. I had the privilege to photograph their special day for Steve Exum. This wedding was fun in part because of the beautiful setting (and the beautiful llamas)! There also was the beautiful bride who is a photographer herself.

Love at the Goat Farm

This spring I had the pleasure of photographing this lovely couple at a goat farm near my home. They had just gotten engaged and wanted to spread the word with their picture and a goat setting. It was a beautiful day to be out with the goats and the guineas.

April Flowers

The people that lived in my house before me planted a bunch of bulbs. Now I have the pleasure of taking care of three garden spaces around my farm house. These are some of the flowers as they stood early in the morning this week. I love spring time!

Obama Time: Registering Voters

Simon and I decided to volunteer for Barack Obama on Saturday. April 11th is the last day you can register to vote in North Carolina and still vote in the Democratic primaries. The two of us went out and registered voters in Pittsboro and Carrboro. I felt like I was acting as a good citizen by registering voters on all sides of the political race and in different walks of life.

Simon helps Poloma Pineda, 18 yrs, register for the first time. She is a native of Florida but lives in Chapel Hill. Pineda was excited about registering so she could vote for Obama.

My Birthday

I've been meaning to post some pictures from my birthday for awhile (it was on March 22). It is a lucky year for me, I turned 26, it is the year 2008 (I have a thing for even numbers), my birthday was on Saturday, and all my friends came out to celebrate by hanging out in the river on our land and painting our faces with rocks from the creek. It is fun to act like a kid sometimes. In the morning I was working on my garden. My brother, Matt, and his girlfriend, Meredith, showed up with vegetable plants to add to my garden. It was later that my boyfriend Simon 'surprised' me with a party at the creek.

James and Katie's Wedding

This is the first wedding that I was allowed to photograph at my internship. I am interning under Steve Exum. It has been wonderful being included in everything Steve and Joey does. These are some of my favorite photos that I took at the wedding. Katie and James had a beautiful wedding and they were beautiful themselves.

Sara's Photo Shoot

For my last photography assignment before going on my second internship, I decided to photograph my beautiful friend Sara. It is a new interest of mine to do this type of work. Sara was a wonderful model. These two shots are a couple that I liked.

Headshot Lighting Lab

This photograph was also produced for James Walter's commercial lighting class. Our class broke into groups and came up with several different lighting recipes for head shots which we can hopefully use in the future.
